SIGNATURE® GEN S

Transitions Signature GEN S lenses are the most advanced photochromic lenses available today. Photochromic (or transition) lenses automatically darken when exposed to UV light and turn clear again upon returning indoors. GEN S lenses deliver excellent clarity indoors and out, the fastest dark-to-clear speed yet, and full ultraviolet (UV) and blue light protection.

In this guide, you’ll find essential Transitions GEN S information, including what these state-of-the-art lenses do, how they differ from others, and why they might be the right fit for your lifestyle.

What Are Transitions Signature GEN S Lenses?

Transitions GEN S glasses represent the latest advancements in photochromic lens technology, providing the benefits of prescription eyeglasses and sunglasses in one frame.

The successor to Transitions Signature GEN 9 lenses, GEN S lenses adapt faster from dark to light and back again. The photochromic dye in the lenses, which absorbs UV light more effectively than ever before, is embedded in the lens material. When exposed to UV light, the dye molecules change their structure, causing the lens to darken.

Then, when you head indoors or remove the source of UV light, the dye molecules revert to their previous clear state. The improved photochromic technology provides a notable improvement in transition speed and clarity compared to prior generations.

Transitions glasses are built for everyday convenience. Their rapid response to changing light conditions protects your eyes all day long — faster (and better) than earlier generations did.

What Sets GEN S Apart?

Transitions GEN S lenses stand apart from regular lenses and earlier Transitions generations in several key ways:

  • Speed: Darken and clear faster than any previous Transitions lenses, so you don’t suffer through a tedious adjustment period
  • Indoor clarity:  Virtually clear with no distracting tint left behind, unlike older transition lenses
  • Outdoor comfort: Deep, consistent tint outdoors to reduce glare and improve comfort
  • UV protection: Blocks 100% of both UVA and UVB radiation, which causes short-term and long-term eye damage
  • Blue light filtering: Filters harmful blue-violet light, which can damage the retina and cause eye strain, indoors and outdoors
  • Style options: Expanded range of colors to fit your personal style and flair
  • Longer-lasting performance: Maintains optimal performance better than previous generations, meaning they’ll stay effective and useful longer

Who Should Consider Transition GEN S?

If you’re seeking a versatile, everyday pair of glasses that adapts to changing light, Transitions Signature GEN S lenses are designed for you. You’ll likely benefit from GEN S lenses if you:

  • Move between indoor and outdoor settings frequently
  • Want a single pair of glasses instead of switching between sunglasses and regular lenses
  • Are sensitive to glare, bright sunlight, or eye strain from blue light
  • Are a parent looking for safe, protective lenses for your children’s glasses
  • Are an active professional needing the all-day comfort and protection of Transitions GEN S safety glasses

Lens Material Options

GEN S lenses are available in a wide range of materials. No matter your prescription or lifestyle, Transitions GEN S lenses can be crafted in nearly any material — polycarbonate, glass, and more — to meet your needs and preferences.

Check out these popular options:

  • Polycarbonate: Lightweight, thin, and impact-resistant, making them excellent for both everyday and safety glasses.
  • Trivex: High-impact, scratch-resistant, and lightweight with crystal-clear optics.
  • High-Index (1.67, 1.74): With a higher refractive index, these lenses are sleeker, slimmer, and highly functional, especially for strong prescriptions.

Lens Types Available

In addition to lens material options, Transitions GEN S technology can be incorporated into multiple lens types, such as:
