As RX-Safety continues to work hard to provide you with protective safety equipment, especially for your eyes, we’ve recently expanded our offering to include work gloves. These are some of the best work gloves that are perfect as winter work gloves and are typically waterproof. Yet how should work gloves fit? Are they supposed to fit like regular gloves when we go out in the cold weather?

It’s important to take the time to better understand how these should fit. Otherwise, they may lose their efficacy in protecting your hands from hazards and the elements.

They should have a balanced fit

As with any glove, it should fit snugly but also be flexible. These may seem like opposing factors to consider, but it’s well worth understanding. With a snug fit, gaps shouldn’t be between your fingers or around your wrist. It’s meant to be an enclosure on your hand.

Yet if it’s too tight, then it will restrict the movement based on the material being used. You need to be able to do your full range of motion with your hands with the gloves versus without. If you get ones that are too tight, you won’t be able to do your work; you could cut off the flow of blood and other issues. If you get some that are too loose, you may not notice your gloves getting stuck in machinery until it’s too late.

Know how to measure your work gloves for the perfect fit

A good way to solve this ahead of time is to understand how to measure your hands properly for these work gloves. You’ll just need your fingers (besides your thumb) and a tape measurer. Take your four fingers in an upright position and have all the fingers together, but keep them loosely together, don’t press them together. Then you take the tape measurer and measure the circumference of your palm.

From here, there’s a rough guide of measurements, but it’s always a good idea to check in with us to confirm your size.

  • Small – up to 8 inches
  • Medium – between 8 and 9 inches
  • Large – between 9 and 10 inches
  • Extra Large – Between 10 and 10.5 inches
  • 2x Large – Over 10.5 inches

This is a rough overall guide, and the measurements are for work gloves for men, but measuring them is always a good idea, so you know where you stand.
