A single vision lens is a type of eyeglass lens that has the same prescription power throughout the entire lens. It’s designed to correct just one type of vision problem, such as nearsightedness (trouble seeing far away) or farsightedness (trouble seeing up close). People who need glasses to see clearly at just one distance—whether for reading or distance.

A digital single vision lens is a more advanced version of a regular single vision lens, made using high-precision “freeform” technology. This process creates the lens with greater accuracy, resulting in clearer and sharper vision, especially at the edges of the lens. What makes digital lenses even better is that they are tailored specifically to your frame’s curve and size. This customization ensures that the lens fits your frame perfectly, giving you a more comfortable and personalized visual experience compared to traditional single vision lenses.

A Flat Top 28 bifocal, also called an FT-28, is a type of bifocal lens that has two different areas of vision correction. The top part of the lens is for seeing things far away, and the lower part is for reading or seeing things up close. The “Flat Top” part means that the reading section is shaped like a small half-circle with a flat top, while “28” refers to the width of the reading section in millimeters. It allows you to switch between near and far vision easily without needing two pairs of glasses.

Flat Top 28 Double Segment Bifocals (Double D bifocals) are the perfect solution for tradespeople and professionals, featuring two convenient reading segments—one at the top and one at the bottom—along with a central distance section, allowing for seamless vision at multiple focal lengths without needing to adjust your head, making them the ultimate choice for those who need efficient, hands-free clarity in both close-up and distant tasks.

Trifocal lenses are prescription lenses with three distinct focal points: one for close-up tasks, one for intermediate distances, and one for distance vision. They offer a seamless transition between all three vision zones, making them ideal for individuals who need clear vision at multiple distances without switching glasses.

A progressive no-line bifocal is a type of lens that helps you see clearly at different distances—near, far, and in-between—without any visible lines on the lens. Unlike traditional bifocals, which have a noticeable line separating the areas for near and far vision, progressive no-line bifocals have a smooth, gradual transition in lens power. This means you can look through different parts of the lens to see clearly at various distances, making it easier to switch between tasks like driving, reading, or using a computer without needing separate glasses.

Polycarbonate (often called “poly”) is a popular material used for eyeglass lenses. It’s lightweight, strong, and impact-resistant, making it great for safety glasses or for people who are active. Polycarbonate lenses have a thinner profile compared to regular plastic lenses because they have a higher index of refraction, which means they can bend light more efficiently. The index of polycarbonate is 1.59, which allows for thinner lenses even with stronger prescriptions.

Trivex is a type of lens material that’s similar to polycarbonate but has some added benefits. Like polycarbonate, Trivex lenses are lightweight, strong, and impact-resistant, making them great for active people or for use in safety glasses. What sets Trivex apart is that it provides even clearer vision because of its higher optical quality. It also has a slightly lower index of refraction (1.53), meaning the lenses may be a little thicker than polycarbonate, but they’re still very light and comfortable to wear.

Lenses made from 1.60 high index plastic are lightweight, durable, and offer a thinner, more attractive appearance compared to standard lenses. With a refractive index of 1.60, they are ideal for stronger prescriptions, reducing thickness and weight while maintaining excellent optical clarity. The advanced design enhances comfort and provides a modern aesthetic, making it a popular choice for those looking for both style and function.

High index 1.67 plastic lenses are a type of eyeglass lens designed for people with stronger prescriptions. These lenses are thinner and lighter than regular lenses because they have a higher index of refraction (1.67), which means they bend light more efficiently. Even if you need a strong prescription, 1.67 high index lenses help reduce the thickness and weight, making your glasses more comfortable and less bulky. They’re a great option for those who want a sleek look without sacrificing vision clarity.

High index 1.74 lenses are the thinnest and lightest plastic lenses available, making them ideal for people with very strong prescriptions. Because they have the highest index of refraction (1.74) for plastic lenses, they can bend light more efficiently, allowing them to be much thinner than regular lenses. This makes your glasses look less bulky and more comfortable to wear, even with a high prescription. High index 1.74 lenses are perfect for anyone looking for a sleek, lightweight option with strong vision correction.

Standard glass lenses are known for their excellent optical quality and scratch resistance. Because glass naturally has a high level of clarity, these lenses offer sharp, clear vision. Glass lenses are also highly resistant to scratches, making them a durable choice that can maintain their quality over time. However, one downside is that glass lenses are heavier than plastic or other modern materials, which can make them less comfortable for all-day wear, especially in stronger prescriptions. Despite their weight, glass lenses remain a great option for those prioritizing durability and top-notch optical clarity.

Lenses made from 1.80 high index glass are designed for individuals with strong prescriptions, providing a thinner and more lightweight option compared to standard glass lenses. With a refractive index of 1.80, these lenses offer exceptional optical clarity while minimizing thickness and weight. Known for their durability and scratch resistance, they provide a sleek, modern look with superior visual performance, making them a great choice for those seeking both style and practicality in their eyewear.

Drivewear lenses from Transitions are special sunglasses that adapt to changing light conditions while you’re driving and outdoors. They combine two technologies: polarized lenses to reduce glare from bright sunlight and Transitions technology, which adjusts the tint of the lenses based on the amount of light. In cloudy or rainy conditions, the lenses take on a greenish tint to enhance contrast and improve color perception, making it easier to see. When exposed to bright sunlight, they darken for better protection. Drivewear lenses are designed to help you see more clearly by cutting down on glare, making them perfect for all driving conditions.

A scratch resistant coating is often applied to surfaces that are not inherently scratch-resistant, like CR-39 plastic, polycarbonate, or Trivex. It adds a barrier of protection that hardens the surface against both large gouges and smaller scratches, which can build up and crisscross to add a hazy appearance to lenses. If your lenses are formed from any material other than glass, a scratch-resistant coating will increase their productive lifespan.

UV light is invisible to the human eye but can, in excess, cause retinal burning and scarring. Most sunglasses are already designed to block a high level of UV radiation; other lenses, depending on their function or lens material, may also block some UV rays. If your lenses do not specifically state their UV screening level and you spend time outdoors, an additional UV coating will offer protection and peace of mind. Anti-UV treatment is not necessary on polycarbonate lenses because it is an inherent property of the material.

An anti-fog coating works by chemically affecting the adhesion of water molecules, preventing them grouping into larger clusters that can impair vision. If your glasses are frequently exposed to temperature changes or humid conditions, you’ll likely want an anti-fog coating to help combat condensation. The same goes for anyone who engages in strenuous activities such as physical labor, participation in sports, or exercise. Any activity that causes your body temperature to fluctuate will likely lead to lens fogging.

Anti-reflective (AR) coatings are best suited for indoor use, especially for those frequently exposed to screens or bright lighting, as they reduce glare and enhance visual clarity. Perfect for high index lenses, particularly glass, AR coatings minimize reflections and help alleviate eye strain. They’re ideal for anyone working with computers, driving at night, or spending time around artificial lighting. While AR coatings excel indoors, they are less effective in dusty or dirty environments where frequent cleaning is required. Always clean lenses while wet to maintain their clarity and longevity.

Blue Light Plus AR Coating is a premium protective layer applied using advanced vacuum coating technology. This coating features anti-static and oleophobic layers, ensuring your lenses stay smudge-free and easy to clean. On the front side, the Blue Light protection shields your eyes from harmful high-energy visible (HEV) light in the 440-480nm range, helping reduce digital eye strain. A blue-tinted anti-reflective (AR) coating is applied to the back of the lens to minimize glare, enhancing clarity and comfort. The subtle blue hue adds a sleek, modern touch, making your lenses both functional and stylish.
