Costa Del Mar optical frames are purpose-built for people who spend serious time outdoors, particularly on and around open water. Each frame in the Costa Del Mar optical line pairs lightweight premium materials with optics engineered for high-glare environments. That’s why they’re a trusted choice for anglers, boaters, and anyone who demands accurate color perception and visual clarity both on and off the water.

With polarized lenses and durable, corrosion-resistant frames, Costa eyeglasses are designed for wear during activities in which your glasses absolutely cannot slip.

Costa designs around real use cases, such as UV exposure on open water, wet and sweaty conditions, or the need for high contrast when reading currents or spotting fish beneath a glare-covered surface. That specialization is evident in the materials, the lens technology, and the ergonomics of every Costa optical frame.

Prescription Costa Eyewear

At RX-Safety, we carry Costa frames with full prescription customization through our in-house optical laboratory. Whether you need single-vision, progressive, or bifocal lenses, we use either authentic Costa 580® lenses or our own high-performance digital lenses to fit your prescription, and then ship them directly to you at factory-direct pricing.

We offer a wider range of specialty coatings and lens materials than most optical retailers, so you don’t have to settle for a generic preconfiguration. You can design your Costa eyeglasses for the exact conditions you’ll face.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. When you order Costa optical frames through RX-Safety, you have two choices:

  • Authentic Costa 580® prescription lenses, which deliver the brand’s signature color-enhancing optics
  • RX-Safety’s own digital prescription lenses, which offer edge-to-edge clarity and a wide range of coating options

Regardless of which option you choose, we’ll fill your prescription order in our U.S.-based lab using your exact prescription requirements.

Absolutely. For prescription fishing sunglasses, Costa is one of the most technically specialized brands available. The frames feature bio-resin materials for saltwater durability and Hydrolite™ rubber at the nose and temples to prevent slipping, even when you’re sweating or in wet conditions.

Costa was born on the water, and it’s the core of everything the brand does. The polarized lens options reduce surface glare at the wavelengths that matter most on the water. They provide better contrast and depth perception when you’re interpreting underwater structure or tracking fish.

RX-Safety excels in performance eyewear. When you order Costa eyeglasses through us, we cut, edge, and mount your lenses in our own state-of-the-art optical lab. That means faster turnaround, better quality control, and access to lens options that standard eyewear retailers may not offer.

We also offer specialized lens coatings, including anti-fog, enhanced anti-scratch, and our exclusive Halo night driving lenses. Because we manufacture directly, we offer competitive pricing without sacrificing lens quality.

You can get either or both. Costa produces dedicated eyewear frames for everyday clear-lens wear, and we can also fit their world-famous sun frames with your individual prescription. We can customize Costa sun frames with polarized, photochromic, or tinted lenses, depending on your visual needs and intended activity.

If you primarily need driving or outdoor sun protection with your prescription eyewear, Costa’s sun frame lineup gives you more lens and tint options. If you need everyday eyeglasses for indoor and mixed-use wear, Costa’s optical frames are the better fit.

Costa uses a variety of premium materials, depending on the frame model.

  • Bio-Resin, Costa’s proprietary plant-based plastic, is lightweight, flexible, and highly resistant to saltwater and UV degradation.
  • TR-90 nylon provides durability and memory-flex properties across many of Costa’s sport frames.
  • Monel or Titanium sleek metal frames give you a clean, sophisticated look and feel for optical and lifestyle frames while maintaining corrosion resistance.

Each material serves a slightly different purpose, so consider how and where you plan to wear your glasses when selecting your frames.

It’s simple! We offer three submission options:

  • Upload a photo or scan of your prescription directly on the product page.
  • Email your prescription to our customer service team.
  • Fax us your prescription after completing your order.

If you have any questions about your prescription or need help interpreting your prescription values, including sphere, cylinder, axis, or add power, our optical team is glad to help you before or after you place your order.

Yes. Polarization is standard across most of Costa Del Mar’s sun frame lineup, and it’s available as an upgrade for optical frames when a tinted lens is appropriate.

Polarized lenses block horizontally reflected light — the kind that reflects off water, pavement, and glass — and significantly reduce eye strain and improve contrast. For boating or any activity with bright surface glare, polarized lenses are a practical choice.

At RX-Safety, we offer polarized options in multiple tint colors to eliminate glare and enhance contrast in different light conditions, such as fishing or driving.

Costa eyeglasses are built for rugged outdoor durability, and many models perform well under punishing conditions. That said, impact resistance for workplace or safety applications requires ANSI Z87.1 certification, which is a separate standard from general outdoor durability. Costa frames are not universally ANSI-rated, so check the specific model for certification.

If you need prescription eyewear that meets industrial safety standards, RX-Safety carries a full range of ANSI Z87.1-certified frames from brands like Wiley XPhillips Safetyand others.

For many models, Costa offers an “Adjustable Nose Pad” or “Global Fit” (sometimes called “Asian Fit”). This design adjusts the nose bridge angle and pad placement for a more secure, comfortable fit for those with lower nose bridges and higher cheekbones, face shapes that frequently cause standard frames to sit too low or press uncomfortably against the cheeks.

If you’ve had trouble with eyewear fitting properly in the past, the Global Fit option is worth considering. It provides the same optical performance as the standard version with a better-fitting position on the face.

We typically process custom prescription orders in 7–14 days in our lab. That window covers lens selection, prescription verification, cutting, edging, mounting, and a precision and quality check before we ship your glasses. Orders with specialty coatings or high-index materials may take toward the longer end of that range.

Prescription Lens Options

When you order Costa optical frames through RX-Safety, we can fit them with several lens options, depending on your prescription and visual needs.

Single Vision Lenses

Single vision lenses correct one focal distance, either far or near. Digital Single Vision lenses use freeform surfacing technology to optimize the optical center across the entire lens, providing sharper peripheral vision and edge-to-edge clarity than conventional single vision lenses.

For active use or wider frames, digital single vision is the better choice.

FT-28 Bifocal Lenses

Also called flat-top bifocals, FT-28 bifocal lenses provide two distinct optical zones separated by a visible line, providing distance correction in the upper portion and a 28mm near segment in the lower. They’re durable, straightforward, and a practical choice for people who have difficulty adapting to progressive lenses.

Seamless Progressive Lenses

Seamless progressive lenses provide distance, intermediate, and near correction with no visible dividing line. Modern digital progressives offer wide viewing corridors and fit into active lifestyles. They’re a popular choice for Costa optical frames used in both outdoor and everyday settings.

Lens Materials

The best lens material varies by application:

  • Polycarbonate is lightweight and impact-resistant, making it a practical default for sports frames.
  • CR-39 plastic offers excellent optical clarity for mild to moderate prescriptions.
  • Glass provides superior scratch resistance and optical clarity but is heavier and more fragile.
  • High-index (available in 1.67 and 1.74 indices) produces thinner, lighter lenses for stronger prescriptions.
