Is It Hard to Get Used to No Line Bifocals?

Realizing that you need to switch from regular glasses to bifocals can be tough to accept, but no line bifocals make it a lot easier. They look like any pair of eyeglasses, so no one has to know that your vision is getting worse. Plus, with today’s glasses, you can still look on-trend when wearing bifocals, which is a big improvement over the bifocals that were available in the past.

Although you might not be too concerned about the look of your new glasses, you could be asking yourself, “Is it hard to get used to no line bifocals?” Switching prescriptions can always be a bit difficult, especially if your prescription is stronger. However, it can be even tougher when you are wearing bifocals for the first time, even when they are no line bifocals. Luckily, following a few tips can help you get the hang of it so that you feel comfortable in your new glasses in no time.

Understand Why It’s Tough to Get Used to New Glasses

First of all, you have to understand why it is tough to get used to wearing new glasses. It goes farther than just being about your eyes — it also has to do with your brain and the way that it interprets the things that are seen by your eyes. Basically, you have to give your brain a little bit of time to adjust to the idea of seeing things differently.

Give Yourself Some Time

The main thing that you can do to get used to your bifocals is to give yourself a little bit of time. In a week or so, you should be accustomed to them. In the meantime, consider taking them off for a few minutes throughout the day to give your eyes a break.

Adjust How You Use Your Glasses

If you are accustomed to wearing “normal” glasses, you are probably used to looking straight ahead through your lenses so that you can see. With bifocals, you have to do things a little differently. This is because the different parts of your glasses are designed to be used for different things.

For example, if you are reading a book or are using the computer, you will want to look through the bottom part of your lenses. This is because this part of your lens is designed for seeing things that are close.

For regular vision, you’ll want to look straight through your glasses. This is the “intermediate” part of your lenses, which are designed to provide you with a combination of up-close and distance vision.

When you are driving or are otherwise looking farther ahead, you’ll want to look more through the top of your lenses.

It can take some practice to get used to looking through the various parts of your lenses so that you can see as well as possible for whatever you might be doing, but you’ll get used to it with practice.

See Your Eye Doctor

It’s perfectly normal for it to take a little while for you to get used to your glasses. However, if you find that you are still having trouble after a couple of weeks, or if you are having serious headaches, you’ll probably want to schedule an appointment with your eye doctor. It can sometimes be difficult for your eye doctor to give you the perfect prescription when prescribing no line bifocals for the first time, but he or she can talk to you about what you are experiencing and can give you a minor adjustment if necessary.

No line bifocals are a great option for many people, even if they can be tough to get used to at first. If you are looking for a great pair of glasses for a reasonable price, contact us at Rx-Safety to find out how we can help.
