The Benefits of Prescription Wiley-X Glasses with the Removable Facial Cavity Seal

Prescription Wiley-X glasses are available with a patented removable foam facial cavity seal. This seal effectively converts a pair of glasses into goggles in that it seals the eyes from wind, dust, debris, and peripheral light. Unlike goggles, you can quickly convert them back into normal glasses, and they’re much more stylish.

These glasses are also ANSI Z87.2 safety approved, which means they pass the same toughness requirements as safety glasses. They are incredibly versatile in that you can use them for motorcycle glasses, safety glasses, sunglasses, or as simple prescription glasses with a clear lens for indoor use. By choosing the right options, you can make them into indoor or outdoor glasses, or even both.

To give you a better idea of the uses of prescription Wiley-X glasses with a removable foam facial cavity seal, here are three important benefits:

Wind Protection

If you ride a motorcycle, protection from the wind is important for the comfort and health of your eyes. The winds common to high-speed riding will dry out the eyes and produce blurred vision. The short-term consequence is a possible road accident, while chronically dry eyes can cause dry eye syndrome.

Dry eye syndrome occurs when the eyes don’t produce enough tears. Without the moisture and lubrication of tears, the cells of the cornea would dehydrate and die. Tears help small eye wounds heal and contain antibacterial and antiviral agents that fight off infections. All of these functions are diminished in people with dry eye syndrome. Activities such as hiking in high winds, downhill skiing, or bicycling on windy days will also dry out the eyes.

Blocks Peripheral Light

Like wind, peripheral light gets into the space between the inside of the lens and your eye from the side. Why does this matter? It degrades the effectiveness of UV blocking lenses because the eye still gets UV light coming in from the side. This UV light reflects off the inside lens surface into your eye. Peripheral light reflection also bypasses the glare protection of sunglasses. Sometimes you may even see the reflection of your own face on the inside of your lens. This light also diminishes the effectiveness of polarized lenses. The same is true with blue blocking lenses as well.

Dust Protection

The term “dust” used here means any airborne particle, whether it’s cement dust, soil particles, windblown sand, or even pollen. If you have hay fever and don’t wish to drive or operate construction equipment under the influence of an antihistamine, prescription Wiley-X glasses with a foam facial cavity seal is a drug free solution. When the soil is dry, leaf blowers and lawn mowers can stir up unhealthy soil particles such as animal fecal material into the air. During automotive work, the eyes may be exposed to rust particles.

Work environments or home DIY work may expose your eyes to cement dust, fiberglass, sawdust, and silica. Activities that produce airborne dust include grinding, sawing, chipping, hammering, and sanding. Use of pressurized air for cleaning surfaces will fill the air with dust. Demolishing masonry and chipping or hammering of rock or concrete also produce dust. In addition to eye protection, you should wear dust masks in these situations to protect your lungs.

If you wear contacts, you should remove them in dusty environments because dust particles can get lodged under a contact against the eye. This can cause scratches and abrasion injuries. The safest solution is using either prescription goggles or prescription Wiley-X glasses with a foam facial cavity seal. Another benefit of these glasses is that their polycarbonate or Trivex lenses have superior impact resistance to flying projectiles, which is a common hazard in many work environments and home DIY work.
